Yes, 100 per cent. He’ll definitely get more game time’: Marcus Rashford backs Mason Greenwood to be part of Man United’s first-team plans as squad prepare for Perth Glory friendly
Manchester United may have lacked firepower last season but one of their forwards believes that will change with the promotion of one of their rising stars to the first-team squad.
Marcus Rashford has backed highly-rated youngster Mason Greenwood to prove a hit at Old Trafford in the coming campaign.
Greenwood made his first-team debut in the latter part of last term under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – coming off the bench during their Champions League last-16 second-leg win at Paris Saint-Germain in March.
The 17-year-old, who has four first-team appearances to his name, is part of United’s pre-season squad in Australia and Rashford has backed his team-mate to play a role next season.
‘Yes, 100 per cent. For me, he’ll definitely get more game time,’ he said as reported by the Metro.
‘Everyone’s just enjoying watching him develop and grow, you know, because that step up from academy football to men’s football can be difficult.
‘He had a good game against Cardiff on the last game of the season, so that’s put him in good stead for the position that he’s in now.
‘So hopefully he just keeps on going and keeps working hard, and then I don’t see why he can’t play.’
United are currently in Perth embarking on their pre-season tour there – which sees them facing A-League side Perth Glory on Saturday before taking on bitter rivals Leeds United four days later.
